For my change project of “Trash to Treasure” Up-cycling, so far, I have accomplished scheduling to have an Up-cycling arts and crafts activity for the SOS Children’s Villages location in Coconut Creek, for December 1st. In this activity, I will show the elementary school children at SOS Villages about how paper towel rolls and other recyclable materials can be repurposed into fun, creative projects that will get them interested in the idea of Up-cycling. I will also have students at my high school, who are members of the Key Club, help assist the elementary schoolers with the crafting activity, introducing them to the movement as well. This activity will serve as my Key Club service project and my first workshop to introduce the “Trash to Treasure” Movement throughout my community.

When I first told the club’s officers about the idea, they were really on board with it! During a club officer meeting, we came up with the idea to have a workshop where members can make “Trash to Treasure” paper maché sculptures. We also decided to collaborate with our school’s “Save What’s Left” Club in order to gain enough recyclable materials for our members. We thought collaborating with this club would definitely be a good idea since they are always doing school-wide clean-ups, where they can gain these materials. I also have a model paper maché sculpture, I made to look like a milkshake. I plan to use it to show the Art Club members an example of the amazing paper maché sculptures they can create. My sculpture is a great example of an artifact of my progress:
