Places of Change

Photo of “The Truth My Color Bleeds” written by Renee G. ( 6 March 2023)

Renee's Place

My photo was taken in the Black Box located in one of the Performing Arts wings at Nova Southeastern.

The reason I chose this location was because I felt compelled to the performing arts department, the essence of creation that emits itself and oozes from the walls is immensely compelling and drew me towards the Black Box Theatre. Posing my shark (Killa Kay) in the seat facing towards the open center of the theatre represents the first stage of creation. There was nothing but material amongst the stage. It was left empty, blank like the saying "Tabula Rasa" waiting for a story to unfold.

To connect my photo to my change project, you could also interpret it as Killa Kay sitting in the theatre alone, ostracized from the general community due to his difference, children in our society today are subjected to the same feeling due to lack of help and support because of their health conditions. Children with rare severe health conditions especially in low-income households have little to no help from insurance companies and the government, most families because of rare conditions have to pay insane amounts of money for

medication to keep their children alive without sufficient help especially from high insurance companies that make billions on average a year.
